Raphinha's two goals propel Brazil to a commanding 4-0 victory against Peru

Raphinha successfully converted a penalty in each half, leading an enhanced Brazil to a commanding 4-0 victory over Peru during the South American World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.

Following their 2-1 comeback triumph in Chile the previous week, Brazil exhibited a more vibrant performance from the outset, controlling possession effectively. Late goals from Andreas Pereira and Luiz Henrique further highlighted their impressive display.

Having suffered four defeats in five qualifiers prior to their victory in Chile, Brazil now occupies the fourth position in the standings with 16 points after 10 matches, trailing third-placed Uruguay only on goal difference.

"I believe this was essential; winning both matches was crucial for us to regain our momentum," Raphinha stated in an interview with Brazilian television Globo.

"We managed to control both games. While we are far from perfect, I am confident that we are heading in the right direction."

After striking the crossbar in the 24th minute, Raphinha opened the scoring for the home team with a penalty in the 38th minute, awarded after Peru defender Carlos Zambrano committed a handball.

The Barcelona forward doubled Brazil's advantage from the penalty spot in the 54th minute, following a foul by Zambrano on Savinho inside the penalty area.

Substitute Pereira netted Brazil's third goal with an impressive acrobatic volley in the 72nd minute, skillfully converting a cross from Luiz Henrique. Just two minutes later, Henrique secured the victory with a low shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Argentina achieved a resounding 6-0 victory over Bolivia, leading the standings with 22 points, three points clear of Colombia, who dominated last-placed Chile with a 4-0 win.

Davinson Sanchez initiated the scoring for Colombia with a deflected header in the 34th minute, followed by Luis Diaz, who extended their advantage early in the second half by tapping the ball into an unguarded net due to a defensive error from the visitors.

Jhon Duran and Luis Sinisterra completed the scoring for Colombia, while Chile experienced their fifth consecutive defeat in the qualifying rounds.

Paraguay triumphed over Venezuela with a score of 2-1, placing them sixth with 13 points, tied with fifth-placed Ecuador and one point ahead of Bolivia in seventh. The top six teams will secure a spot in the 2026 finals in North America.
